Monarda Beauty of Cobham carries pale purplish-pink, two-lipped flowers in dense terminal whorls above contrasting purple calyxes. The upright clumps reach about 105 cm tall, and mint-scented, purplish-green leaves fill the stems.
Plant it in a sunny or partly shaded border, cottage garden, or prairie-style planting. The tubular summer flowers attract bees, and regular deadheading helps extend the display.
Give the clump humus-rich soil that stays moist but drains well. Keep it from drying out, allow good airflow, and divide it every three years. Powdery mildew can be severe, so remove affected growth and cut the stems to the ground in fall.
