Purple Dream is an upright Asiatic lily grown from a perennial bulb. In early to midsummer, sturdy green stems carry several upward- to slightly outward-facing flowers. Each broad bloom is violet-pink to strong pink, with a dark plum to deep red throat, dark midribs, and numerous dark spots that merge into a dramatic ring above the throat. The unscented flowers reach about 16 cm across and are excellent for cutting. Green lance-shaped leaves line the stems, then yellow and die back after flowering. Grow it in full sun or partial shade in fertile, evenly moist, well-drained soil, with afternoon shade useful in intense heat. It works well in borders, mass plantings, and deep containers. Deadhead faded flowers, keep the foliage until it yellows, and feed lightly in spring. This lily is toxic to cats; keep it away from pets.
