Hosta Fried Bananas is a deciduous, clump-forming perennial with broad, glossy, yellow-gold leaves that become brighter in stronger filtered light while retaining chartreuse-green tones. The foliage forms an open, semi-upright mound. Tall flower scapes carry large, fragrant, near-white tubular flowers from mid-July into mid-August.
Grow it in partial or full shade in fertile, moist but well-drained soil, and shelter it from cold, drying winds. Apply a spring mulch and water during dry spells so the soil does not dry out. Divide established clumps in early spring or late summer. No structural pruning is required, although spent flower stems may be removed. All parts are toxic to pets and horses, so keep them away from the plant.
