Hosta Big Daddy creates a bold shade-garden focal point with a broad mound of thick, glaucous blue leaves. The rounded blades become deeply puckered and cupped as they mature, then grayish-white bell-shaped flowers rise above the foliage in early summer.
Grow it in fertile, moist but well-drained clay or loam in partial shade, with shelter from cold, dry winds. Water enough to keep the soil evenly moist, divide in early spring or late summer, and clear the dead foliage after it dies back at the end of the season.
