Broad dark green leaves with irregular golden margins make Hosta Aureomarginata (montana) a bold foliage plant for shaded beds. The clump reaches about 2 feet tall and 4 to 5 feet wide, so it can cover ground or anchor a woodland border.
Very pale purple, bell-shaped flowers rise above the foliage in midsummer. Grow it in partial to full shade with fertile, moist but well-drained soil. Water during dry spells and mulch in spring to help hold moisture.
