Hemerocallis Summer Wine is a clump-forming herbaceous perennial with arching, strap-like green leaves. In midsummer, flower scapes carry large single blooms about 14 cm across. Each flower lasts one day, with ruffled wine-red to pinkish-red tepals around a greenish-yellow throat. Mature plants grow about 10 to 30 inches tall and 10 to 35 inches wide, fitting borders, mass plantings, ground-cover schemes, and large containers.

Grow it in full sun or partial shade in fertile, moist but well-drained soil. Full sun supports the best flowering, while shade may reduce bloom. Water freely during spring and summer and maintain moisture while the plant is flowering. Divide crowded clumps in early spring or autumn. Remove spent blooms and finished scapes, then clear old foliage in late fall or before fresh spring growth. The plant is toxic to cats, so keep it away from pets.
