Double gold, orange, and red flowers make Heliopsis helianthoides Yellow Spider a clear summer focal point. Long, spidery petals surround intense red centers above dark red-to-green foliage from July through September. The upright, bushy clumps mature at about 3 to 5 feet tall and 2 to 3 feet wide, fitting sunny flower borders, prairie-style plantings, and large patio containers. Sturdy flowering stems also provide colorful material for cutting.
Grow this deciduous perennial in full sun and moderately fertile, humus-rich soil that stays moist but drains well. Water regularly without overwatering, and deadhead faded flower heads during bloom to prolong flowering. Bees, butterflies, and other pollinators visit the flowers.
