Geranium pratense (Victor Reiter Group) Kaya forms a compact mound about 12 to 18 inches tall. Large, single violet-blue flowers with vivid magenta-red veins rise above deeply divided, near-black spring foliage from late spring into midsummer.
The leaves mature toward dark green with maroon edging, keeping the low clump distinct after the first flowers. Use it at the front of a border, beneath shrubs and roses, as seasonal ground cover, or in a roomy outdoor container.
Grow it in sun or partial shade in moderately fertile, well-drained soil. Keep new plants evenly moist, then water during prolonged dry spells. Removing spent stems and tired leaves encourages fresh foliage and flowers.
