Filipendula rubra Venusta is a commanding moisture-loving perennial for the back of a border, rain garden, or pond edge. Tall sturdy stems rise from bold, deeply divided green foliage and carry broad clouds of tiny deep rose-pink flowers with feathery stamens in July and August. Both flowers and foliage are fragrant.
Give Venusta fertile, humus-rich soil that stays consistently moist in sun or partial shade. Allow generous space because established plants can spread into a large clump. Cut stems back after flowering, or briefly retain the decorative faded heads. Divide in spring to renew or control the planting.
