Convallaria majalis var. rosea spreads by rhizomes to form a low carpet of elliptic green leaves, with arching stems of fragrant pale mauve-pink bells rising above the foliage in late spring. It brings a soft seasonal accent to shaded ground beneath shrubs and also provides stems for cutting.
Plant it in fertile, humus-rich soil that stays moist but drains well, in full or partial shade. Top-dress with leaf mold in fall and divide established rhizomes in fall when more plants are wanted. It is toxic if eaten, so keep it away from children, pets, and horses.
