Brunnera macrophylla Silver Heart forms a low, spreading mound of thick, round heart-shaped leaves. Mature leaves are heavily mottled with silver and traced by very thin green veins and green margins. Airy sprays of small blue, forget-me-not-like flowers rise from the basal foliage in spring. Plants grow about 15 to 35 cm tall and 30 to 60 cm wide, making a light-reflecting ground cover for shaded borders, woodland gardens, and containers.
Grow it in a cool site with partial or full shade and humus-rich, moist but well-drained soil. Water regularly to maintain even moisture, especially while the roots establish.
