Trollius x cultorum 'Superbus' is an upright, clump-forming herbaceous perennial that grows 1 to 2 feet tall and 1 to 1.5 feet wide. Deeply divided, toothed rich-green basal leaves form a dense clump. Long erect stems carry rounded, bowl-shaped lemon-yellow flowers about 2 inches across in late spring and early summer.
Grow Superbus globeflower in full sun or partial shade in deep, humus-rich clay or loam. Keep the soil consistently moist; it accepts boggy, poorly drained conditions and should never be allowed to dry out. The bright flowers suit moist borders, cottage gardens, meadows, pond margins, stream edges, bog gardens, and cutting.
Space plants 20 inches apart. Cut the plant back hard after flowering and apply a balanced liquid fertilizer to encourage additional blooms. Divide established clumps in spring or fall. The cultivar is deer and rabbit resistant and attracts butterflies and hummingbirds. It is generally pest-free, but powdery mildew may occur.
