Salvia Nemorosa Mainacht raises deep blue-purple flower spikes above a compact mound of green foliage. The strong upright bloom fits garden edging, cottage borders, pollinator planting, and cut arrangements. Lightly fragrant leaves keep the clump full below the flowers. Mature plants reach about 20 inches tall and can spread to about 3 feet.
Grow it in full sun or light shade and provide soil that drains well. Water during establishment, then maintain moderate moisture. Feed lightly so growth stays firm. Remove spent spikes through summer to encourage rebloom, then clear old stems in late fall or early spring. Divide in spring or early fall, or take stem cuttings in late spring or summer. Check for slugs, aphids, spider mites, powdery mildew, leaf spot, and root rot.
