Kniphofia Royal Standard sends stout flower stems above narrow tufted leaves, with scarlet buds opening to bright yellow tubular flowers. It works as a vertical accent in sunny perennial borders and small groups, and its flowers attract hummingbirds and butterflies.
Grow it in full sun and humus-rich, moist, well-drained soil, keeping the crown from sitting wet in winter. Remove faded spikes after flowering and divide established clumps in late spring when needed.
