Hosta Sum and Substance enormous chartreuse-gold leaves form one of the largest hosta clumps available. Pale lavender flowers rise above a bold architectural mound in midsummer. It matures to about 75 to 90 cm high and 150 to 180 cm wide, giving it a clear role in shade garden. Its purple flowers are expected from July, August.
Grow Hosta Sum and Substance in partial or light shade with shelter from harsh afternoon sun. Keep soil evenly moist while establishing, then water during extended dry periods without leaving roots waterlogged. Remove spent flower stalks and clear dead foliage after frost. Watch for slugs, snails, vine weevil, and foliar nematodes may cause damage. Hosta is toxic to dogs, cats, and horses if eaten and may cause vomiting, diarrhea, or lethargy. Prevent pets from chewing leaves or roots.
