Hosta Mighty Mouse is a compact, deciduous herbaceous perennial selected as a sport of Hosta Blue Mouse Ears. It forms a dense rounded mound about 15 to 25 cm high and 25 to 35 cm wide, with overlapping rounded to ovate leaves that give strong texture close to the ground.
The leaves emerge blue-green with a broad yellow margin, then mature through the season to gray-green with a cream-white edge. Short upright racemes carry small pale to dark lavender funnel-shaped flowers in early to midsummer. The restrained flowers sit just above the foliage and complement the variegation without overwhelming the compact plant.
Grow it in partial or full shade in fertile, humus-rich soil that remains moist but drains freely. Shelter the mound from cold drying winds, mulch annually, and water during prolonged dry periods. It suits edging, shaded containers, woodland borders and underplanting, but needs protection from slugs and snails. Divide established clumps in spring or late summer and remove damaged foliage as needed.
