Hosta Lipstick Blonde is a compact deciduous perennial with narrow, pointed, slightly crumpled golden-yellow leaves carried on contrasting deep red petioles. Loose racemes of lavender-purple bell-shaped flowers appear in midsummer. Mature clumps grow about 10 to 15 inches high and about 20 inches wide, forming a vivid foliage accent for shaded borders and containers.
Grow in fertile, moist but well-drained chalk, clay, loam, or sandy soil in partial shade. Several hours of gentle sun help retain the bright yellow color, but protect leaves from harsh afternoon scorch. Water regularly during dry periods and mulch with compost. Divide in spring or autumn and clear dead foliage after dormancy. Watch for slugs, snails, vine weevil, and viral disease.
