Hosta Gold Standard is a deciduous rhizomatous perennial valued for broad variegated foliage in shade. It forms a substantial mound of broadly ovate to heart-shaped leaves with strong curved Parallel veins. Young leaves emerge mainly Green, then develop Yellow to Cream centers surrounded by broad irregular Green margins. Loose Racemes of Purple or White funnel-shaped flowers rise above the foliage in summer.

Grow it in partial or full shade in fertile humus-rich soil that remains evenly moist but drains freely. Filtered light supports the Yellow coloring, while shelter from harsh sun and drying wind helps prevent leaf damage. Mulch with mature compost, water before the large leaves begin to wilt, and avoid prolonged saturation around the crown. Allow enough room for the wide adult mound.

Divide established clumps in spring or late summer to preserve the cultivar. Remove spent scapes if seed is not wanted and clear Yellow and Brown foliage after natural autumn dieback. Slugs, snails, vine weevils, foliar nematodes, Hosta Virus X, anthracnose, and crown or root rot are the main concerns. All parts contain saponins and may cause digestive illness in dogs, cats, and horses if eaten.
