Hosta Francee is an award-winning clump-forming herbaceous perennial that develops a broad arching mound of strongly veined, heart-shaped dark green leaves. Each leaf carries a narrow crisp white margin, producing a clean variegated effect that remains useful through the shaded growing season.
In summer, slender scapes rise above the foliage and carry pale lavender funnel-shaped flowers. Grow Francee in partial to full shade in fertile, organically rich soil that remains evenly moist but drains freely. Shelter it from drying wind and harsh afternoon sun, and water at ground level beneath the leaves.
Mature clumps can spread widely and should be given enough room to reach their true scale. Remove damaged leaves and spent scapes, clear foliage after autumn dieback and divide congested plants in early spring or late summer. Francee works well as ground cover, mass planting, woodland underplanting or a large container specimen.
