Hosta Blue Ivory is a registered medium-sized, deciduous herbaceous perennial selected as a sport of Hosta Halcyon. Mature plants form substantial rounded mounds about 35 to 45 cm high and 65 to 80 cm wide, with thick overlapping heart-shaped leaves that create strong structure in shade.

The broad leaves open with dusty blue-green centres and generous cream margins. As summer advances, the margins brighten toward white while the centres deepen to blue-green; a slight green blush may appear in the oldest pale tissue later in the season. Upright scapes about 50 to 60 cm tall carry loose clusters of lavender flowers in July and August.

Grow it in partial or full shade in fertile, humus-rich soil that remains evenly moist but drains freely. Shelter the mound from drying winds, mulch annually, and water during prolonged dry periods. It suits shaded borders, woodland planting, containers and underplanting, but needs protection from slugs and snails. Divide established clumps in spring or late summer and remove damaged foliage as needed.
