Hemerocallis 'Bogeyman' is a bold daylily grown for its very dark summer flowers and strong garden presence. The blooms are deep purple red to near black, with a bright yellow green throat that makes the color stand out even more. Each flower opens above a clump of arching, strap-like green leaves. This variety has a neat clump-forming habit and works well in borders, mixed beds, and large containers. It is a good choice for adding strong contrast to sunny planting schemes.

This cultivar flowers in mid to late summer and may rebloom later in the season. It is valued for its large blooms, semi-evergreen foliage, and dependable perennial growth. Butterflies and hummingbirds may visit the flowers, which adds extra garden interest in summer. The plant fits easily into many styles, from cottage borders to more modern planting. It also combines well with salvia, echinacea, geranium, and ornamental grasses for a layered look.

Care is simple for most gardeners. Remove spent flowers and old stems to keep the plant tidy, and cut back tired foliage near the base when the season ends or before fresh growth begins. Established clumps can be divided in spring or early fall to make new plants. Watch for aphids, spider mites, daylily gall midge, rust, and leaf streak, especially if growth is crowded. With the right siting and basic care, this daylily gives strong color and reliable performance for many years.
