Heliopsis Helianthoides Bleeding Hearts is an upright, clump-forming perennial that grows about 3 to 4 feet high and wide. Black stems carry opposite, rough, serrated leaves that emerge purple-flushed and mature deep green with bronze to purple tones.

From early summer into early fall, single daisy-like flowerheads open fiery red and mature through orange-red to coppery orange while retaining red centers. The seed strain produces natural variation in orange tone, and its strong stems make useful cut flowers.

Grow it in full sun or light partial shade in average, moist but well-drained soil. It tolerates heat, poorer soil, and some drought after establishment, and attracts bees, butterflies, other pollinators, and seed-eating songbirds.
