Geranium Brookside covers open soil with a broad leafy mound and deep blue saucer-shaped flowers. Small bright white eyes sharpen the blue-purple color and make each summer bloom easy to see. Spreading clumps help suppress weeds beneath roses, shrubs, or taller border plants. Green leaves can turn red in fall, extending the seasonal effect after flowering.
Grow it in full sun or partial shade and keep the soil moist but well drained. Compost mixed in before planting and a light spring mulch provide enough nutrition. Cut old leaves and flowered stems back after the summer display to encourage fresh foliage and possible rebloom. Divide established clumps from early fall to early spring. Watch for slugs, snails, and sawfly larvae, and maintain airflow to reduce mildew.
