Eryngium 'Big Blue' is a striking sea holly grown for its rich blue flower heads, bright blue stems, and spiny foliage. It forms a tidy upright clump and adds strong shape and texture to sunny planting. The flowers stand well above the leaves and keep their color for a long time. This makes it a strong choice for borders, gravel gardens, and cutting beds.

This plant is valued for its long season of interest and its ability to handle open, sunny spots. Bees and other pollinators visit the flowers, which adds to its value in planting. It is often chosen when bold shape is needed without taking up too much space. The flower stems can also be cut for fresh or dried arrangements. Its clear blue tones mix well with silvery, purple, and softly flowering plants.

Sea holly is easy to manage when planted in well-drained soil and left in a bright spot. It needs very little pruning, apart from cutting back spent stems or clearing old growth at the end of winter. New plants are best raised from root cuttings, since larger clumps do not always respond well to division. Problems are rare, though wet ground can cause root rot and poor air flow may bring powdery mildew.
