Epimedium perralchicum Frohnleiten is a compact evergreen barrenwort valued for bright yellow spring flowers that rise above leathery leaves marbled green and bronze. Spiny, ovate to heart-shaped leaflets give the low foliage mat fine texture.
This clump-forming perennial stays about 4 to 6 inches tall and spreads roughly 1 to 1.5 feet wide, making a practical ground cover beneath trees, along shaded paths, or in woodland gardens. Established plants tolerate deer, rabbits, dry soil, and drought.
Grow it in partial to full shade in humus-rich, well-drained soil. Keep the soil evenly moist while the plant establishes, shelter it from cold dry winds, and remove foliage only when winter damage makes an early-spring cleanup necessary.
