Echinacea purpurea Mellow Yellows is a vigorous, seed-grown coneflower strain that creates a coordinated spectrum rather than one cloned colour. Single flowerheads open in cream, lemon, canary, mango and golden-yellow shades around evolving green, gold and burnt-orange cones.
Sturdy upright stems carry the flowers from June into October above abundant green foliage. Natural differences in colour and height are part of the strain, making it especially effective in sunny drifts, prairie-style borders, wildlife gardens and cutting plots.
Grow it in fertile, well-drained soil in full sun. Water during establishment, deadhead for repeat bloom, or retain selected late seedheads for birds and gentle reseeding. Echinacea products may cause allergic reactions, including rashes in some children.
