Echinacea purpurea Green Twister is a tall, erect seed strain with sturdy branching stems and rough green foliage. Its abundant single flowerheads open lemon green, then develop a widening carmine-red inner zone around a prominent bronze cone.
The horizontal to slightly incurved rays create a distinctive two-tone pinwheel from July through September. Natural differences in green intensity and red-halo width are expected, giving sunny drifts, prairie-style borders, containers and cutting plots a lively but coordinated display.
Grow it in average, well-drained soil in full sun. Water during establishment, deadhead for repeat bloom, or retain selected late seedheads for birds. Echinacea products may cause allergic reactions, including rashes in some children.
