Dahlia Ottos Thrill is a tender tuberous perennial forming upright branching clumps about 90 to 110 cm high and 45 to 60 cm wide. Dark-green opposite leaves are often divided into serrated pointed leaflets. Strong stems carry enormous fully double decorative flower heads about 20 to 25 cm across, with broad layered ray florets in soft pink, blush, and lavender-pink. Plants flower from midsummer into autumn when faded heads are removed.
Grow this outdoor cultivar in full sun in fertile humus-rich loam that remains evenly moist while draining freely. Shelter and stake discreetly where heavy flowers meet wind, mulch lightly, water deeply during dry periods, and deadhead often. Divide tubers or take basal cuttings to preserve the cultivar. In cooler regions lift tubers after dormancy and store them protected until replanting. Ottos Thrill suits cottage, city, cutting, and mixed borders, mass planting, specimens, and large outdoor containers. It may be harmful to pets if eaten, is not drought resistant, and is not a houseplant.
