Dahlia Extase is an upright tuberous perennial in the Semi-cactus Group. Strong branching Green stems carry opposite pinnately divided leaves and large fully double flowerheads up to 20 cm across. Each head has many long pointed ray florets that are partly rolled, creating a refined spiky outline. The flowers are Orange or Pink with a restrained Yellow center and appear from midsummer into autumn.
Grow it in full sun in a sheltered position with fertile humus-rich soil that remains evenly moist but drains freely. Enrich the bed before planting, water deeply during dry periods, and feed during active growth. Pinch young shoots to encourage branching and deadhead regularly. The tall flowering stems benefit from protection against strong wind.
Divide tuber clumps with a viable bud or take basal cuttings to preserve the cultivar. After frost damages the foliage, cut the stems back and lift and store the tubers in protected dry conditions where winter survival is uncertain. Slugs, snails, aphids, earwigs, capsid bugs, mites, powdery mildew, Gray mold, viruses, and rot may occur. Dahlia can cause mild digestive signs or dermatitis in pets and sensitive people.
