Canna Tropical Yellow is a compact rhizomatous perennial that forms a vigorous upright clump of broad dark green to blue-green leaves. Its substantial foliage creates a lush architectural presence without reaching the height of many traditional cannas.
Rich yellow flowers open from midsummer into autumn on sturdy stems above the leaves. Small red spots and short red streaks add natural detail without changing the overall yellow impression, and removing spent flowers helps maintain a long display.
Grow it in fertile loam or sandy soil that stays evenly moist but drains freely, in full sun or light partial shade and a sheltered position. Water generously during active growth and use a potassium-rich feed in containers or where soil fertility is limited.
Plant several rhizomes in an informal group through a sunny border or use a large container for a bold seasonal accent. In regions where winter conditions are unsuitable, lift and store the rhizomes after the foliage dies back, keeping them barely moist until replanting.
