Astilbe 'Vision Vulcano' is a compact herbaceous perennial grown for its bold pink flower plumes and neat clump of dark green foliage with a soft bronze tint. It blooms in late summer, when many shade plants are grown more for their leaves than their flowers. This makes it a good choice for adding fresh color to shaded borders, woodland settings, and containers. Its tidy size also helps it fit well in smaller gardens.
The flowers rise above the foliage on upright stems and attract bees and butterflies. It grows well with hostas, heucheras, ferns, and other moisture-loving perennials. The plant grows best in soil that stays moist, especially during warm weather. While it can handle slightly drier conditions better than some other astilbes, long dry spells may lead to weaker growth and less attractive leaves.
