Dense lavender-purple plumes rise above shiny, divided foliage in late summer, giving Astilbe Maggie Daley a later display than many astilbes. The compact clumps fit naturally into shaded borders, woodland plantings, rain gardens, and large outdoor containers.

Grow it in fertile soil that stays evenly moist. Partial shade protects the foliage, while steady water supports the upright flower stems. The blooms provide forage for bees and also last well as cut flowers.

Add compost in spring and water before the soil dries. Faded flower stems may remain for fall and winter structure, then be removed in spring.
