Aconitum carmichaelii Arendsii is an erect tuberous perennial reaching about 120 to 180 cm high and 45 to 60 cm wide. Rigid leafy stems carry leathery dark green leaves deeply divided into three to five lobes. From early to late autumn, dense branched panicles open uniformly deep azure-blue to blue-purple helmet-shaped flowers, followed by follicles where pollination succeeds.

Grow this outdoor cultivar in full sun or partial shade in deep organically rich clay, loam, or sandy soil that remains consistently moist while draining freely. Shelter it from intense afternoon sun and drying conditions, mulch with compost, and divide only when necessary. Cut stems after flowering or remove them after natural dieback. All parts, especially roots and seeds, are extremely poisonous and may be harmful through skin contact. Wear protective clothing and keep it away from children, pets, livestock, and food gardens. It is not drought resistant and is not a houseplant.
