Dahlia Kelvin Floodlight is a tuberous, clump-forming perennial with an upright habit and dark green foliage. From midsummer into fall, it produces immense, fully double yellow flowerheads. The broad florets create a full, rounded dinner plate form, commonly about 10 to 12 inches across. Mature plants grow about 32 to 48 inches tall and 12 to 24 inches wide, bringing a bold vertical accent to sunny borders, cutting gardens, and large containers.
Grow it in full sun in fertile, humus-rich, moist but well-drained soil enriched with organic matter. Water regularly without leaving the soil waterlogged, and stake the upright growth to support the large blooms. Pinch growing tips for bushier plants and deadhead to prolong flowering. In cold-winter regions, lift and store tubers after fall frost; replant after frost risk passes. The plant is toxic to pets and horses, so keep them away from it.
