Geum Firestarter is a compact, clump-forming rhizomatous perennial that forms a low mound of deep-green, lobed and toothed leaves. Upright wiry stems carry abundant semi-double, ruffled fiery-red flowers, about 5 cm across, from spring through summer with a repeat display in autumn. The flowers attract pollinators and are useful for cutting.
Grow it in full sun or partial shade in fertile, moist but well-drained soil, avoiding winter waterlogging. Allow about 40 cm between plants, water during dry spells while plants establish and mulch in spring. Regular deadheading encourages further flowers; divide established clumps every few years to maintain vigor.
