Viflaim Christmas Star Painting Class

Заняття з декоративного розпису Віфлеємської різдвяної зірки

November 18th @ 6PM
December 9th @ 6PM

*Photograph includes several colorful examples that will be used for inspiration. The traditional Viflaim is 3 dimensional and made from wood and takes several weeks to make. Our version will be made from cardboard and 2 dimensional.

The word “Viflaim” represents the birthplace of the Messiah and the town of Bethlehem. The star is often used to celebrate коляда (Kolyada), which means the celebration of Christmas. On Christmas Day people travel from house to house carrying their viflaim stars while singing carols. This is to wish goodwill to neighbors, friends and family in their village. Watch the video below, it's so precious.

This workshop will explore specific traditions centered around creating the Ukrainian Viflaim Christmas Star. Each participant will make their own personalized star and patterns through the use of paint and winter greenery grown and harvested at Barnswallow.

Two hour workshop includes all materials, refreshments and festive atmosphere in The Nest, our heated greenhouse at the farm. Maximum of 12 participants for a personalized experience with flower farmer and artist, Meredith Nunnikhoven.

This class is appropriate for the age of 12 and older.

Persons needing ADA assistance to attend or participate in the class should contact Meredith at 612-280-8709 prior to the class date.

A percentage of the workshop profits will support for aid organization for children, soldiers and animals in Ukraine. Confirmed by our local Ukrainian friends, the below organizations will be the beneficiaries. You can also access and donate to these organizations this Holiday season!

Since we are preparing harvesting materials to order for class participants, no refunds are available. However, date or class type may be substituted if there are available spaces.
